God's Greatest Comfort to us in Life And Death

I just returned from China being on a 2 week missionary journey. During that time their were two tragic deaths within our church family. It was quite overwhelming. My staff, leaders. and church members stepped up to the plate and met the needs with kindness, grace, mercy, compassion, and strength. But in spite of what we can do as humans there is a God kind of love to be experienced that’s deeper than any human love. There is a God that will give you peace even in the time of great despair and heartache.

In these difficult days when everything seems unstable, all things are unpredictable, and the dangerous unknown looms around every corner, this reminder from the beloved Heidelberg Catechism serves as an anchor to a weary soul:

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong— body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

Christians Pray for ‘New China’ on Anniversary of Historic Massacre
Thursday, 04 June 2009 16:50

Twenty years after the Chinese government-run People's Liberation Army opened-fire on thousands of unarmed student protestors and allowed armored tanks to roll over the crowds, killing hundreds, Christians are praying for a "new" China to emerge that respects democracy and religious freedom. Tonight Christian leaders from the U.S. and China are gathering in Washington, D.C., for a prayer service aimed at remembering the victims of the June 4, 1989, massacre.
