Introducing Kids to Money
Money gives people -- both young and old -- decision-making opportunities. Educating, motivating, and empowering children to become regular savers and investors will enable them to keep more of the money they earn and do more with the money they spend. Everyday spending decisions can have a far more negative impact on children's financial futures than any investment decisions they may ever make. Here are 15 simple ways to help educate children about personal finance and managing money:

A Must See Movie!

Just finished watching The Pursuit of Happyness. WOW! What a movie. I am stirred and motivated to keep on keeping on. This is the true story of Chris Gardner.
Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a family man struggling to make ends meet. Despite his valiant attempts to help keep the family afloat, the mother (Thandie Newton) of his five-year-old son Christopher (Jaden Christopher Syre Smith) is buckling under the constant strain of financial pressure. No longer able to cope, she reluctantly decides to leave.
Chris, now a single father, continues to doggedly pursue a better-paying job using every sales skill he knows. He lands an internship at a prestigious stock brokerage firm, and although there is no salary, he accepts, hopeful he will end the program with a job and a promising future. Without a financial cushion, Chris and his son are soon evicted from their apartment and forced to sleep in shelters, bus stations, bathrooms or wherever they can find refuge for the night.
Despite his troubles, Chris continues to honor his commitment as a loving and caring father, using the affection and trust his son has placed in him as an impetus to overcome the obstacles he faces.
So get out and either rent it, buy it, or borrow it, but just make sure you see it.

A New Generation of Praying Children
OK, this video is powerful. God has been dealing with us strongly about being a church devoted to prayer. So for the past few weeks I have been teaching and preaching on the subject of prayer. Tricia and I came across this video on YouTube. I believe that God is calling us to prayer as never before. This video is of kids praying and it is powerful. It has taken some hits from some carnal morons on the internet who are very critical of prayer.

Reading the Literary Classics Part 1

I have recently been in the mood to read the literary classics. I purchased Mark Twain's "The Diaries of Adam and Eve" a few years ago while in Minnesota. I have always enjoyed Mark Twain's writing since I was a kid. This book tells the Garden of Eden story in first person. When reading it you must remember Twain writes with his own take on the matter of what might have been going through Adam and Eve's mind. It is short, humorous, and imaginative retelling of the origins of all humanity. Be advised it's not gospel but just Mark Twain's sarcastic humor and subtle touches of our human nature.
Here is an extract from Adam's Diary: Monday
"This new creature with the long is a good deal in the way. It is always hanging around and following me about. I don'tlike this; I am not used to company. I wish it would stayh with the other animals...Cloudy today, wind in the east; think we shall have rain...We? Where did I get that word?...I remember now- the new creature uses it."

"Why People Don't Pray"

I just returned home from teaching at our midweek Bible Study on this subject of "Why People don't Pray". We ended up having a strong intense time of prayer at FaithPointe. I am very excited at the depth that God is taking us as a church. I have been praying for the power and passion that the first century church had, to be in us in this 21st century church. That cannot happen unless we pray. Prayer was the fuel of the early church in the book of Acts. It wasn't a "ministry"in the church, it was the motivation behind everything that took place. God help us be people who pray!
"Why People Don't Pray"
Hebrews 2:3
•neglect means – of little concern, to take lightly
1. They Don't Know How to Pray
•Luke 11:1-4
2. They think their Prayers Don't Make a Difference
•II Chron. 7:13-14
3. They Think Long Prayer is Necessary
•Matt. 6:6-8
•I Kings 18:36-37
4. They Have a Lukewarm love for the Lord
•Rev. 2:1-5
5. They've Perverted their Priorities
•Malachi 1:8
6. Because they've learned to live without Prayer
•Matthew 7:23
7. They Don't believe God hears their Prayers
•Romans 3:4

A New Role Model for U.S. Churches - in Asia
A New Role Model for U.S. Churches—in Asia
A thriving church in Singapore offers one of the most impressive examples of 21st century ministry. We could learn a lot from Trinity Christian Centre.
Some American ministry leaders have predicted that Christianity will dry up in the United States unless we close all our church buildings, end Sunday morning worship and remake our faith into something casual and trendy. Call it Christianity Lite.
Meanwhile, Asian Christians are creating a genuine brand of church—one that is culturally relevant and yet entirely faithful to the New Testament original. And if you want to find the best example of this passionate Asian faith, talk to Dominic Yeo, 45, pastor of the 5,200-member Trinity Christian Centre in Singapore.

Boss vs Leader
"Do you know the difference between a Boss and a Leader?"
Consider:
A boss creates fear; a leader creates confidence.
A boss creates resentment; a leader breeds enthusiasm.
A boss says, "I"; a leader says, "We".
A boss fixes blame; a leader fixes mistakes.
A boss knows how; a leader shows how.
A boss makes work drudgery; a leader makes work interesting.
A boss relies on authority; a leader relies on cooperation.
A boss drives; a leader leads.
Our leaders are looking for committed people. People who are purposed in their spirit to go beyond the demands of faithfulness into the deliverance of loyalty. I encourage you today to exercise loyalty's desire to do all that the Master has commissioned you to do. Jesus requires loyal commitment! Remember, leaders take you where you need to go, not where you want to go. So, Lech Auch LaRie!

What You Drink Is as Important as What You Eat
What You Drink Is as Important as What You Eat
By Al Sears, MD
A few days ago, a patient walked into my office with one of those super-sized soft drinks from a fast-food place near my office. It wouldn’t have surprised me - except that it was 8:30 in the morning.
I wondered how common this breakfast-soda habit has become, so I did some research. It turns out that more than 15 percent of people now order a soda when they go to a restaurant in the morning. That’s a jump from less than 8 percent in 1990. And there’s an even bigger jump in the number of people who open a can of soda at home every morning: 2.5 percent, up from less than 0.5 percent 20 years ago. That’s a 500 percent increase!
What you drink is just as important for weight loss and overall health as what you eat. And both diet and regular sodas are dangerous … for different reasons.
Regular sodas spike your blood sugar almost immediately, which triggers your body to produce waves of insulin. Insulin stimulates fat production and fat storage. Diet sodas usually contain aspartame, a neurotoxin that prevents the hormone leptin from communicating with your brain. This is critical, as leptin is the messenger that tells your brain, "I’m full." As a result, you are far more likely to overeat.
The best thing to drink with breakfast is water. It’s the way I start my day. But if you need a pick-me-up, green tea is better than soda. It gives you a gentle energy boost and is full of disease-fighting antioxidants. (Even regular tea or coffee is better than soda.)
